HPV Vaccine Reduces Genital Diseases




A study by the National Cancer Institute in Bogota (Colombia) issued in the online edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute shows that vaccination of human papillomavirus (HPV) might lead to a rapid reduction genital warts, cervical cell abnormalities and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Some of these genital abnormalities are precursors of cervical, vulvar and vaginal. Researchers studied 17,622 women aged 15 who were included in one of two trials of vaccine efficacy for HPV6/11/16/18. All women underwent cervicovaginal specimens and cytological. According to the authors, the results showed strong evidence to suggest that HPV vaccination in adolescent girls and young women, take in a few years to a remarkable reduction of genital warts, cervical cytological abnormalities associated with cancer precursor lesions of the cervix, vulva and vagina.
